Covid-19 Our Response

Updated: Sep 1, 2020

Let's be honest, we are living in scary times. There is so much information out there; this source says that, the other source says this. I am not a doctor nor am I a scientist. I am (we are) flooring contractors. Our job is to provide and install flooring and we always have done this in the safest and most efficient way possible. Well, the terms "safest" and most "efficient" have been redefined. Because of this even though our job is the same, it's how we go about performing it is what has changed. Is it forever? Probably not, but until all the data is in, we have an additional responsibility to keep our customers, employees, sub-contractors and society safe.

Governor Pritzker’s COVID-19 Executive Order No.8, Section 1, Paragraph 9 has deemed the construction industry “Essential” and therefore allowed us as an exception to the order. Many offices are not deemed as "Essential" and are therefore not working or working from home. There has been talk of returning to work but, now while employees are out of the office is the time to get some of projects that would normally disrupt your business completed. And for those at home looking at those floors that have needed updating...now is the time.

For your safety there are several aspects of our business that we have modified to adapt to our current environment: our internal office and warehouse, our site visits and our installations.

Regarding our office and warehouse, we have implemented the following polices:

  • Partial shifts – fewer employees in the office and warehouse at the same time.

  • Shifts are not comingled – those working at the same time continue to do so.

  • Social distancing.

  • Each employee is to sanitize wipe their workstations, light switches, doorknobs and commonly touched items before and after working.

  • Absolutely no using each other’s office supplies or personal items.

  • Interoffice communication is done through email as often as possible.

  • Masks are provided and recommended while others are in office together.

  • All packages and mail are sanitized wiped when received.

Regarding site visits, we have implemented the following policies:

  • First and foremost: complete adherence to our customer’s Covid-19 policies.

  • Hand sanitized before and after each site visit.

  • Sanitize wipe all measuring supplies at the beginning and end of the workday.

  • Social distancing.

  • Wear a mask during site visit.

  • Instead of providing samples and engaging in an on-site presentation we offer an option to send web-links. Once the customer has made a list of potential products samples can be shipped.

  • No hand shaking (please accept our forearm or elbow bump as a greeting).

Regarding installations, we have implemented the following policies:

  • First and foremost: complete adherence to our customer’s Covid-19 policies.

  • Morning temperature check.

  • If an installer registers a temperature over 100 the entire crew is sent home until a Covid-19 test is administered and the potentially infected installer provides documentation of a negative result.

  • Whenever a positive test is received by any installer the following is done:

  • The infected installer is required to quarantine for 14 days and will not be put to work by Abel Carpets / Comfloorx until they provide documentation of a negative result.

  • The rest of the crew is required to get tested and cannot return to work until they provide documentation of a negative result.

  • All customers in which the installer has performed work for during the prior 14 days will be notified of the results.

  • If an office/warehouse employee has been in direct contact with the infected installer within the last 14 days, they will be sent home and not return until they provide documentation of a negative result.

  • If an office/warehouse employee tests positive each installer that has been in direct contact with that employee is required to get tested and cannot return to work until they provide documentation of a negative result

  • No comingling of crews – those crews that work together continue to only work with each other.

  • No working in the presence of other contractors.

  • No working while employees are in the areas being installed.

  • Mask wearing while at job site.

  • Hand sanitized and/or washed frequently.

  • Social distancing.

  • Limited communication with installers – please call our office to discuss anything regarding the job and we will contact them via phone.

If you have any questions of concerns on how we can work safely work with you please don't hesitate to call. 630-875-2500. We are here to help you.

Please stay safe and positive.
